I had my first trip to Venice. It was just a quick day trip but I saw many of the main parts of the town and experienced some typical Venice attractions like a gondola ride and visiting Murano island for the Venetian glass factory.
Unsurprisingly, we were too busy for a sit down lunch so we just grabbed a slice of pizza but we stopped at a wonderful chocolate shop called Vizio Virtu. We all went crazy there.
They have a wonderful selection of chocolate bars, praline and truffles, dragees and candied flowers and fruits. They also have 6 flavors of gelato and I tried them all. They were rich and flavorful. One of the best gelato I ever had.

Our dinner in Venice was at Osteria Barababao which was recommended by an Italian friend who comes to Venice often. Barababao is a very cozy casual restaurant located near Rialto.
We shared a few appetizers including octopus and celery salad which was my favorite dish of the whole dinner. The octopus was slightly grilled and very soft. It was really good with only a simple coating of extra virgin olive oil and salt. They added a ricotta cream but it was not a great sauce for the octopus in my opinion. Also the celery was added on the side as a garnish. But without cream and celery, it was a great dish.
I selected a salted cod for my entree. I was not sure how they would cook it so it was a gamble. Everyone else ordered pasta. The cod was separated in small pieces and cooked in a tomato base sauce. Underneath, there were two pieces of polenta triangles. There was nothing to dislike about this dish but my fork stopped before I reached halfway. I got a little tired of the bland flavor.
I tested every other dish and the best one was the spaghetti with spiny lobster. It was a straight forward, simple and tasty dish. There was two pasta dishes with a black sauce (squid ink) and we ordered both. They were ok but again, it was not superb. The sauce was a little on the fishy side.

Salted cod with polenta; Orzotto with asparagus, egg yolk and parmesan cheese cream;
Paccheri pasta with cuttlefish in black sauce, pistacchio and Colonata's lard;
Spaghetti with spiny lobster; tiramisu
Their dishes were a little more creative than usual which I liked but I wish the overall flavor was a little more developed and refined.
